It's October! The most wonderful time of the year! Spooky season! Danse season! :D


We're already well into our preparations for everybody's favorite festival, The Danse Macabre, but there's more to October than the Danse.

All decked out in my little devil costume, I went out the door and down the sidewalk.
When out of nowhere I happened upon this glowing goo trail. Curiosity got the best of me, so I just HAD to follow it!

It was getting kind of creeeeeeeepy, as I heard noises that made me tremble to the bones. However, I JUST had to keep going, even though the area was getting very heavily treed. I crept deeper into the woods, when I recalled an old town myth of a hidden area that all the undead gathered at. Even knowing that, I still NEEDED to see what the noise was and why the goo trail was there!



I very carefully, though even a bit hesitant, kept walking, when the goo trail....just stopped! I looked around, it was dark and I was scared to DEATH!..The noises got LOUDER, I wanted to run, but couldn't.

A tiny light appeared a short ways in front of me, so I slowly walked up to it and that is when I SEEN it!.........

It was an extremely frightful and paralyzing sight!
It was chiquitabonita8's Pumpkin Patch!

I looked fast and then run swiftly home before anyone or thing could see me!

In July we were made aware of a security issue with the migration to the new layout. The issue, unfortunately, allowed access to accounts of users who had not yet logged into the new site. This resulted from a coding error by another programmer that went unnoticed. We do not hold the this programmer responsible for our oversight. A patch was released within two hours of being notified, and we've since introduced additional protocols to prevent similar oversights in the future.

Shortly after, we received two similar reports from returning users that alluded to a pattern. This prompted us to launch a full scale investigation into thousands of data logs, and confirmed another exploit. That exploit dated back to IcePets creation in 2009, and made logging into another users account available without login credentials. Through our investigation, it was confirmed our migration to the new layout had fixed this issue, due to the additional security Judda had implemented.

Still, we decided to take additional measures and consulted with another programmer for independent confirmation and your peace of mind. They reviewed and reaffirmed the effectiveness of our updated security protocols and agreed with our plans for future updates. One of these measures is the ability to turn on 2FA for your accounts. To access this you can visit the "Security" option under the "Personal" tab or click here. We encourage all users to turn on 2FA, not only here but on any websites you visit which offer the option. Additionally, we've enhanced our error logging to provide more secure and user-friendly messages. Instead of detailed error information, users will now see a generic message from Sally Searcher.



Due to this exploit dating back to IcePets creation in 2009, this investigation has proven to be extensive, particularly for a team of our size. As an ongoing process, we're analyzing thousands of logs of data to understand the full impact. This includes tracing how items were used, moved, sold, and how currency was spent on each compromised account. We're also working to unwind complex transactions, such as pets being renamed, regendered, and moved to mule accounts. With so many variables to consider, including potential name conflicts and item tracing, each account requires a detailed and customized approach to ensure a thorough resolution. All currently known affected users have been notified, and we're actively working to address these losses and restore accounts.

We cannot overstate how deeply sorry we are. Your accounts, your time, and the care you've put into IcePets mean everything to us, and seeing that compromised has been devastating for us. The vulnerability gave the intruder access to affected accounts' email and birth dates. We are grateful other information was not shared, but still understand how disconcerting this can be.

The moment we realised the gravity of the issue, we have treated it with the utmost seriousness. Launching a full investigation, patching vulnerabilities quickly, and putting in place stronger safeguards to prevent anything like this from happening again. We have also implemented new protocols within our team to strengthen our response process and improve the effectiveness of an investigation of this scale.

We accept and fully understand the disappointment and frustration you will feel from this. As always, you are welcome to express this, we just ask is that you please express it with kindness. Having poured so much love and effort into IcePets over the years, our team feels this loss alongside you. We are truly committed to making this right and rebuilding your trust.

Once again, the Halloween Trick-or-Treat event is open to community submissions. If you can make pixel art, you, too, can have your treat (or trick) included in this yearly occurrence.

All submissions must be sent via PM to @Event Art Submissions. The deadline for submissions is October 22.

Here's some base guidelines:

• Treats should be generally Halloween-themed, not just random objects.
• Size limit of 50x50px.
• Images must be submitted in PNG or GIF form.
• Treats must be pixel art, which generally means that overall color count is limited and pixels are intentionally placed. Do not use filters or anti-aliased tools such as Photoshop's paint brush.
• Treats may be animated, but should not use rapid or flashing effects.
  • Animated PNGs are allowed, but your mileage may vary.
  • The first frame of animation should be identifiable, to accommodate situations where animations are disabled.
• Semi-transparency is allowed.
• Images must not be shared publicly before the event begins.
• Images should not have blank space around the outer edges.
• Treats should not use the egg base (save those for the Festival of Eggs).
• Treats may be rejected for reasons other than those in this post¢namely, there will be a general quality bar. We'll try to provide useful feedback around rejections.
• Only one submission will be accepted per-person, do not submit multiple treats unless otherwise announced.
• Images must be designed to look good on a variety of backgrounds (i.e. they shouldn't assume the scroll background or any other specific color).
• If your treat is a specific reference to other media (e.g. a video game, TV show, or so on), clearly identify the reference in your submission.

You can check for a few common mistakes by using this sprite analyzer, though it does not catch all issues that we look for.

There are a limited number of spots available. Art will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis which only applies when the art is deemed to meet all of the above guidelines (that is, if you need to make changes and resubmit, that bumps you to the back of the line).

By submitting art to the Trick or Treat event, you grant Dragon Cave a non-exclusive, transferable, royalty-free license to host, use, distribute, modify, copy, display, and create derivative works of your content. You can end this license any time by contacting us, though the art may not be immediately deleted. The license also ends immediately upon notice from us that the art will not be used in the event.
